The young and the promising displayed compassion, perseverance and hard work with outmost humility to make a difference in the lives of the have- nots in the formidable terrains of Ladakh as VLSP – VDJS Ladakh Service project-2023, was organised by Vidya Devi Jindal School under the flagship of Round Square with the Administrator, Mr Nikhil Rudra, RS Rep. Ms Tanu Tiwari and the staff, Ms Suman Arora, Mr Rupesh Kumar and Mr Rajesh from 13th-20th August in Ladakh. The prestigious project was executed with the collaborative efforts of students of The Doon School, Dehradun, All Saints Nainital, Vivek High School, Chandigarh and VDJS, Hisar.
The VLSP Team comprising 23 students and seven teachers commenced the project at Jamyang School in Central Leh on 14th August. The Chief Guest, Mr. Tsering Namgyal, Lower Leh Councillor, inaugurated the Service Project. The young selfless curators did levelling of the ground, transported the bricks through a human chain, built up and painted the washroom walls.
At Tangste, the delegates were warmly received by the monks and the staff of Sachukul Gonpa Middle School and attended a Buddhist prayer session in the monastery. The participants also had enriching session with the children studying in the Monastery’s school that made them realise the challenges that the people of Ladakh face in their day-to-day life. The braza session with the students of monastery (young Lamas) comprised thought-provoking discussions and expression through illustrations.
The project concluded at Sachukul Gonpa where the students attended a compelling Ladakhi cultural programme comprising prayers, music and dance. The Head Monk, Mr Kaygee, distributed certificates to the delegates to felicitate their sincere efforts in community service.
During the stay at Ladakh, the delegates also visited the Polo ground to attend the Independence Day parade, Karu Army Unit 102 Medium regiment and took a ride in the artillery guns of BMP 2K and K9 Vajra T, 13th century old Tangste monastery, Rezangla Pass, and War Memorial of the 1962 Indo – China war, Pangong Lake, and Changla Pass.
The students returned home with gratitude towards the perseverance and stoicism of the natives of Ladakh in the difficult terrain and the bravery, ardent endeavours and hospitality of the Indian Army, BRO, and ITBP in the harsh climate that Leh is famous for.
