Vidya Devi Jindal School organizes, Annual Sports Day-2024 amidst pomp and show.Laxmibai House emerges champions and lifts ‘The Overall Sports Trophy’. Annual Sports Day 2024 of Vidya Devi Jindal School was organized on Friday, October 25, 2024, at the Vidya Devi Jindal Sports Ground with great festivity. The Chief Guest of the day was Shri Arvind Malik, a Para Olympian from Haryana, India. Mr. Malik is known for his inspiring journey in para-athletics, which he continued even after a neural injury that left him paralyzed. Mr. Malik has made significant marks on the international stage, representing India at the Paris 2024 and Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, where he achieved 6th and 7th place finishes, respectively. He also secured a silver medal at the 2022 Portugal International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports Federation World Games and finished 6th at the Para Athletics World Championships in 2023. The distinguished guest was felicitated with a sapling as a VDJS customary by the Principal, Mrs. Naina Dhillon. The sports meet began races with the lighting of the ceremonial sports torch, proudly led by the sports prefect, Palak Agrawal, captains, and junior captains of various sports. This was followed by the traditional March Past by the NCC, the four houses Kasturba, Laxmibai, Sarojini, Savitri, and the School Band, which was a competitive event. Next on the list were the 200 mtr-U-14 and 50 mtr-U-11 races. ‘Yoga Drill’ presentation was a perfect show of talent and precision. The pyramid formations and the advanced asanas displayed by the students were truly mesmerizing. This was followed by track events comprising 100 mtr-U-17 and 4×100 relay-U-19. The school band led by Khusboo gave an impressive musical presentation comprising 19 marching musicians, displaying their expertise through the songs ‘Saare Jahan Se Achha’ and ‘Kadam Kadam Badhaye Ja’. The 4×100 relay staff, parents, students, and supporting staff, 80 Mtr. women, and 100 Mtr. men staff were the athletic events that drew a large round of applause and excitement as staff and parents from different age groups and walks of life participated. The races for staff vs. students witnessed the bond and competitive spirit between both sections. The Tae-k-wondo students presented a special show that was full of daredevilry, with display techniques like Taegeuk 4, and 8, Koryo, Demo Fight, Street Fight, flying and air kicks, stick air kicks, stick fighting techniques, and board, tile, and tube light breaking that left the audience spellbound. To mark the sports day celebration, Chief Guest Shri Arvind Malik felicitated the national players of the school for their dedication and excellence. In his address, Shri Malik applauded the accomplishments of the girls of Vidya Devi Jindal School. He stressed that one should ignore our failures, and disabilities but take a lesson from them and move ahead in life. He also congratulated the students on the wonderful show and motivated them to do well in life. He was presented with a memento as a token of appreciation. The Annual Sports Meet-2024 came to a close with the distribution of the Best Player Awards for each game in the session 2024–25 and other coveted prizes. Laxmibai House took the rolling trophy for shooting, Taekwondo, volleyball and swimming, whereas rolling trophies for yoga, football, basketball, and triathlon were bagged by Kasturba House. Sarojini House picked up the rolling trophy for volleyball, football, cross country race, and athletics. The rolling trophy for hockey and march past was bagged by Savitri House, and finally the overall sports trophy for the session 2024–25 was lifted by Laxmibai House. The school sports prefect, Palak Agarwal, proposed the vote of thanks to officially conclude the event.
