A group of 31 students of grade IX along with 3 teacher escorts proceeded to Ahmedabad for an exciting educational excursion. The first day of trip started with a visit to Sabarmati Ashram. The ashram houses a museum, library, auditorium and photo galleries. The museum exhibits the life of Mahatma Gandhi. Bordered by shady trees, the atmosphere over here is very tranquil and peaceful. In the evening the group went to Alfa one Mall and had great fun hopping from one store to another, picking up favourite things and savouring the eats at the food court. The next day, early morning they went for the heritage walk. This one of its kind walk in the old city enfolds interesting stops including Clustered houses (Pol), Royal Mausoleum, various religious temples, Bird Feeders, bridges, mosques. It was like ‘Live the old days’ in today’s modern time. In the afternoon, the group visited ISRO where they interacted with young scientists who briefed them about the applications of space technology. The girls were spellbound by seeing the models of satellite launch vehicles and the videos showing the launching sessions. Following days were filled with adventure and excitement as they went for safari to Gir National park and encountered lions walking close to them, visiting fort Diu, St. Paul’s church and Nagoa beach in Diu. They were enthralled to see the beautiful Portuguese architecture in these places. The Akshardham temple and the water and light show gave them an amazing experience and then came the day to visit the famous Somnath Temple. The feel both inside and outside the temple cannot be described in words. On one side of the temple one can get the awesome view of the sea.

Some of the best moments of the trip were Workshop on Cooking Gujarati dishes like Thepla, Khakra and Karhi, doing street shopping, surprise visit to Kankaria Lake and a toy train ride around it, swimming and the Jam sessions. In all, the trip was a great learning experience about the heritage of India. It was a lovely refreshing break after the Annual exams.
