The distinguished educationist and the former Principal of Welham’s Girls School, Dehradun and the founder Principal of the Rajmata Krishna Kumari Girls’ Public School, Jodhpur, Ms Jyotsna Brar, organised a session on ‘An Educational Professional.’ Ms Brar briefed the attendees about the relevance of building up the social and emotional strengths of children during their formative years to equip them to take challenges head-on with confidence and understanding. She emphasised the crucial role of a residential teachers in decoding the troublesome events in a child’s life and thereby helping the child in fostering a right balance in the process. Open discussions were held on the differences between ‘discipline and punishment,’ reaching an understanding among the teachers that ‘punishment cannot inculcate discipline for life long, as it would be based on fear and not on understanding’. The session offered a road map for checks and balances on stereotypes, and institutional memories and for promoting the practice of ‘Active Listening’ among the educators without being judgemental.
