An insightful three-day Science Conclave, 2024, was organised by the Science Department of VDJS from 25th–27th July comprising various activities and workshops for students of all classes. All the activities intended to build up their scientific temperament and give them fascinating glimpses of how science works.
Poster Making– An intra-class poster-making competition was organised for all classes with different topics related to Science like Climate Change, Science vs AI, Sustainable practices to save the Earth and many more. The students displayed visionary ideas about their awareness and knowledge of Science on their posters with artistic skills, making commendable posters.
3-D Designing– Inter-House 3-D Designing Competition was organised in ATL Lab for Classes VII-X. Students showcased their talent in 3-D designing on Tinkercad where they designed models of their choice using available tools. It provided students with a valuable learning experience.
Visit to Haryana Space Applications Centre–87 Jindalites along with Teacher Escorts visited the Haryana Space Application Centre (HARSAC) . The session was hosted by Mr. Ritesh, a senior scientist at HARSAC. Students were given valuable information regarding the Indian Space Programme, various types of satellites, satellite launch vehicles, navigation systems, ISRO, remote sensing technology and many more. The mechanics and teamwork behind every team who worked relentlessly for hours to make missions happen inspired the girls .
Astronomy Workshop (8-12)– An astronomy workshop was conducted in collaboration with the SPACE Organization for Classes VIII-XII. Students were introduced to the celestial bodies revolving in space and had a hands-on experience of making clay replicas of comets. How some of the heavenly bodies burn and emit light of different colours was also demonstrated to the Jindalites. The girls were thrilled to witness Rocket launching and learned the basic science behind rocket propulsion and launching.
Sci-Fi Movie- Interstellar-Students of Classes VII-XII watched a Sci-Fi movie ‘Interstellar’. The movie is inspired by real life and shows the story of how humans are trying to become multi-planetary species. It highlighted to Jindalites the concept of time and relativity in different dimensions.
Fun Activities With Science– Fun activities were performed by various venues on campus demonstrating to the inquisitive minds the importance of wearing white clothes in summer and how the surface tension created by water forms a convex meniscus. A chemical reaction involving sodium bicarbonate sugar and ethyl alcohol, resulting in the ‘black snake’ structure that rose out of the flames triggered the scientific quotient of the students.
Night Sky Gazing (4-8) – A session on Night Sky Gazing was organised for students of Class VI post- dinner in the Athletic field. Students were very excited for the event to gaze at distant stars and the moon. The curious minds got to know about the fundamentals of a telescope, its different parts, and how it works. The kids found the different constellations funny and how the various shapes looked in the sky.
