The Annual Sports Day Celebration was organised on December 10, 2022, at Vidya Devi Jindal School. We were proud to have amongst us the Chief Guest Col. Sonam Wangchuk, MVC who was commissioned into 4 ASSAM, he served in Sri Lanka and acquired significant experience in a counter-insurgency operation against the LTTE cadre. He is currently based in Leh, performing the duties of Zilla Sainik, Welfare officer. The principal welcomed the guest with a welcome card and a bamboo shoot as a customary tradition of the school. The chief guest lightened the opening of the flame ceremony and ignited the passion for sports.
The event started with the air rifle wherein the shooters exhibited their skills of focus and target by aiming at the candle flame from 10 metres. The students of classes IV and V participated in the sack race and Diva of grade V secured the first position. In the Mass P.T. students displayed the theme MAKE IN INDIA in a synchronised vista of coordination, speed and stamina. The 100m race for classes VI TO VIII, the 200 m race and the 4×100 m relay for classes IX &X was headed with air-filled cheering and tons of encouragement for the young athletes. A spectacular School Band Feat with different formations along with a symphony of drums and bagpipes was played by the students. The young yogis of VDJS enthralled the audience through the various asanas of yoga. The taekwondo team displayed techniques like Teageuk, flying and air kicking, stick fighting and breaking.
“Champions keep playing until they get it right” The chief guest, principal, and Administrator felicitated the prize winners of the sub-junior, junior and senior categories of all major disciplines of sports. The Overall Rolling Trophy for Badminton, Shooting, Yoga Taekwondo, Volleyball and Athletics were bagged by Kasturba House. Savitri House bagged the Overall Rolling Trophy for Basketball, Hockey, and Triathlon. Sarojini House bagged the Overall Rolling Trophy for Cross country and Lakshmibai bagged the Overall Rolling Trophy for Soccer and Swimming. The IAYP representatives Tanisha Khetan and Vidhi Agarwal received the badges and certificates of the 62 awardees. The announcement of the sports championships was a great visual treat.
The chief guest Col. Sonam Wangchuk, congratulated the winners and extended his gratitude to the school. He praised the young yogis for their mind-blowing asanas which left him enthralled. He said, “Each and every pose spoke about all the movements, angles, and flexibility.” He also shared his experience of Kargil War through a video in the auditorium at 12:15 pm where students and teachers made use of the opportunity to interact. The principal addressed the gathering and extended her gratitude to the Chief Guest for having shared many values with the young minds. It was a day filled with sportsmanship, enthusiasm, and memories to cherish. The National Anthem was sung at the end leaving each one of us with the spirit of nationality, integrity and harmony.
